Frequently asked questions

Rolling Around is a free, community-driven app for cycle touring and bikepacking. Our mission is to make exploring the world by bike easier, safer, and more enjoyable.

It helps cyclists to share and find information they need while on the road, like wild camping spots, water sources, and bike shops. It has tens of ready-to-navigate routes powered by a live cloud-based waypoint system. Any update made by the community is instantly visible to everyone, with GPX changes synced in real time. It has a find touring companions feature to find someone to share the road with and a meet other cyclist function to find other cyclists to have a coffee with. It has a comprehensive list of airline policies to fly with a bike (FAQ Fly Your Bike), and a list of visa requirements to enter any country with any passport (FAQ Visas). It features a marketplace to donate, buy and sell touring gear, and a Lost and Found to retrieve items. It allows users to share their bikes, setups, gear lists and even keep track of the repairs they do.

Rolling Around is not a navigation app. You can see your location to the map, and you can follow a GPX file, but you can’t navigate from one point to another, and it does not have a route planner.

Rolling Around is tailored for cycle tourers and bikepackers.

Every feature available on the version released on 22/02/2026 is and will be free forever. In the next versions, some new features will be added as premium, and a subscription will be required. But user-driven data, like the waypoints map, will always be free for everyone, unless when offline (which will be a premium feature).

Carlo! A fellow bikepacker. He had the idea of building this app in December 2023. As he had no coding experience, he had to hire someone to do it. That someone, is the one and only. The legend, Vipul. The graphic design side was created by Ivan and then updated by Luis. The website was first created by one of Carlo’s best friends, Andrea (Andrew on RA), and then updated by Vishal. You might ask, what did Carlo do then? Lol. Very fair question. He's still figuring it out! Since the very beginning, hundreds of users provided feedback to improve the app, one in particular stands out for the amount of effort he put into it: Max. He started providing feedback in February 2024 and since then he has been working closely with Carlo and Vipul to make Rolling Around what it looks like today. That’s all.

The idea was born in December 2023 when Carlo was cycling along the Baja Divide with his surfboard and understood how difficult it was to find reliable, up-to-date information. See “Our Story” for more information.

Carlo wanted to create a sense of community and trust across the app, asking to people to register and then to add their name and a photo, helps with that.
